December Pier Fishing Update

Thursday 04th.: water temp 64.6 ENE 5-10mph in the a.m. / 63.5 NE 7-12mph by 12:55 p.m. / 64.9 E 9-15mph in the p.m. The water was a little silty but still clean. It rained all afternoon. Several Flounder were caught but only a couple of legal size. Bait was scarce.


Friday: water temp 63.9 S 9-13mph in the a.m./ 65.7 N5-0mph in the p.m. The water was slightly silty. It was a nasty day with rain and dreary skies. Only a few Flounder were caught.


Saturday: water temp 65.3 NNE 6-8mph in the a.m. / 65.3 ENE 7-10mph in the p.m. Only a few anglers braved the miserable wet and cold conditions. The morning activity was Flounder. Several were caught. Brenda managed 2 legal fish, and Rowell got a nice 17-inch fish. The afternoon brought a good Flounder bite. Rob, Hector and Rowell got nice size fish with a couple hitting 19-inches. Small sharks were everywhere. Hayden decked a couple. Rob also reported Whiting showing up late in the afternoon. He was able to get a couple using Gulp ghost shrimp on a jig. Fish Bites were also good. 

 

 


 

 

Sunday: water temp 65.1 ENE 11-18mph in the a.m. / 65.8 NNE 5-9mph in the p.m. Small Sharks and Bluefish were the catches today. Rain and grey conditions prevailed all day.


Monday: water temp 64.9 NE 7-11mph in the a.m. / 65.8 N 8-14mph in the p.m. The water was clean. Several Flounder were decked. Ivan’s were too short, but Paul got a 17-inch and Jose got a 14-inch fish. Needle fish and Squirrel fish biting as well. There were Cigar Minnows and some Ballyhoo available for live bait.


Tuesday: water temp 63.3 NNE 5-8mph in the a.m. / 64.2 ENE 4-6mph in the p.m.  The water was clean. There were a few Flounder, a Red Drum, a Whiting and lots of Bluefish in the morning. Rob D. Decked and released a 29-inch Red that only had one tiny spot on its tail. John had his rod and reel jerked over the rail. Dan was able to hook it and John not only got his rig back, but the Whiting that pulled it into the water. Whiting came in thick in the afternoon. Also, a huge school of Mullet swam through.

 

 


 

Wednesday: water temp 63.0 ENE 8-12mph in the a.m. / 64.6 W 15-20mph in the p.m.


  • Red Tide status: In Northwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was observed at background to medium concentrations in Bay County and background to low concentrations in Gulf and Franklin counties.
